Notes: 100% Saaz hops and pilsner malt face-off to pack this all-Czech lager with a flavorful punch you would not expect from a brew with only 4.8% abv. Light and crisp, yet slightly herbal in its hoppiness, this extremely drinkable and delicious brew is sure to light the lamp.

A - Light to medium yellow gold color.

S - Honey malt aroma with light citrus and some earthiness.

T - Honey crackery crisp malt, some floral and citrus, light earthy, a little grassy with some lemon pepper spice on the back end with some crisp citrus bitterness. Ends crisp.

M - Light medium body and dry.

O - Victory did a nice job with this one. An easy drinker and dig the crisp citrus and dry finish.

Very smooth and easy drinking. Not as much bite as Prima Pils, Victory's flagship pilsner. I usually pick this up when I see it because it's not as common in stores around me as much as Prima is.

Poured into a hotel glass. A crystal-clear pale straw color with a medium sized white head. Nice floral aroma - brighter than most Czech Pilsners. Clean grain there as well. Taste was also quite clean and crisp; somewhat assertive Saaz flavor but not overly bitter, Cracker and white bready malt flavor. An outstanding beer that feels bigger than it is.

16oz can into a pint glass. Best by 4/30/19, so three months late here.

Very pale golden yellow body with good streams of carbonation. Initial good white head dissipates to a ring and covering, leaving little lacing.

Aroma is malty and oddly apple.

Sweet malty taste, and hops have slipped into the background. Quite smooth, easy drinking, nice malt presence.

Mouth around medium, finish gives a little of that lager bite.

Overall, another beer in the parade of drinkable summer lagers, not bad in any way, but nothing to make you sit up and say "wow".

Victory Brewing Co. "Hip Czech"
16 fl. oz. can, "ENJOY BY: 19 APR 2019 181343 FL DON'T BE A HOSER" and sampled on 30 APR 2019

Look: Slightly hazy light gold body beneath a full head of bright white foam that holds well and leaves some very nice lacing about the glass.

Smell: Saaz hops and light Pilsner malt. Floral, lightly spicy, grainy, grassy, and subtly sweet. Exactly as a Czech Pilsner should be.

Taste: Exactly as the aroma suggests it will be with an additional note of herbal character and the suggestion of lemon. It's not really that bitter but it finishes dry with some residual earthy and spicy hops and a suggestion of lemon. Beautifully balanced and rounded, and superbly polished, this is a really well made beer.

Feel: Light-medium in body and crisp with a fine-bubbled carbonation.

Overall: Hip Czech is an excellent take on a Czech Pilsner that delivers on flavor while lightening the maltiness by just a bit. It's refreshing and highly drinkable.

Poured from a tallboy can into a Dogfish Head tulip

L: Clear light golden pour with 2 fingers of fluffy head. Great lacing.

S: Sweet and floral... grains and hops.

T/F: Follows the nose. Light malts/grains and floral hops. Light spice... modest bitterness. Clean and crisp. Easy drinking.

O: An easy drinking light pilsener... clean and tasty. Low ABV so very drinkable. Quality beer.

On-tap 4/7/2014 at Doherty’s Ale House, in Warwick, RI served in a tapered pint glass.

A: The beer is a light gold color, with a large white head that fades quickly and leaves a spotty lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains lager yeast, some hops and light caramelized malts.

T: The taste starts out bready with flavors of lager yeast and a thin malt character. Then some malt sweetness comes in with some background flavors of citrus and caramel. The hops presence is mild but complementary and brings a good balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and smooth, light-to-medium body, medium carbonation, finish is clean.

O: Tasty, goes down easily, not filling at all, mild kick, good representation of style, this is a decent beer to pound down for a while if you’re in the mood for the style.

Beer pours a straw colored yellow with a white foamy head that leaves wonderfully gobs of lacing along the walls of my empty glass. Nice grassy funky hop scent with a hint of dough in the nose.

The beer is very fresh and clean tasting with the expected Saaz hops that provide a wonderful clean spicy character to plays of the bread like malts well. Thebeer is well carbonated with a lighter body. All around excellent example of the style and fantastic summer beer.

(16 oz can, enjoy by 31 Jan 2019, 4.8% abv... poured into Innis & Gunn fluted goblet)

L: crystal-clear, pale yellow-gold colored liquid; tall, open sponge of white foam which pours real loose and fizzles out rather quick, unfortunately...

S: dead-on Czech pils aromas: static fuzz of spicy Saaz hops, underlying bulk of bread, toasty pale malt... citrus overtones

T: grassy citrus or citrusy grass - hops heavy from outta the gate, but the malt slowly pools up to the middle, providing enough foundational contrast... lemon zest, bitter floral spice, subtly sweet grain lingers long past the finish... electric zip on the hops

F: light-bodied, but each sip is lined with countless tiny ribbons of hop resins and mini-mild malt viscosity... palate stays dry in the back; bitterness and subtle suds attack keeps tongue buzzing, not to mention there's a soft spicy heat that emanates up into the back of the nostrils... this is meant to be drunk in half-liter servings

O: I do believe I initially tried this for the first time at the Kennet Sq location a few months ago - enjoyed it then as I do now, and it tastes virtually identical... nothing out of the ordinary/unique for the style, but expertly executed, on fire... probably a mild variation on my fave Prima

On tap @ the brewery. Clear gold with a rich white head. Robust spotty lacing. Smells floral and fairly spicy with a pronounced tart citrus aspect. The taste has a fresh grassy bitterness with a moderate spiciness that hangs in the finish. Tart lemon with a tight neutral backing graininess. The mouthfeel is lighter bodied with a clean and crisp presence in the mouth. This Czech Pils is on the lighter side but still extremely tasty and refreshing. Perfect for summer.

DATE: January 1, 2018... OCCASION: Penn State goes for its third-straight ten-plus win season against Kentucky in the Citrus Bowl... GLASSWARE: Penn State pilsner... pours a copious amount of thick white head, bubbling and cambering above a vibrant upward rush of bubbles... its light golden body is mostly clear, and its head arches and clusters in fingers.... first scents are toasted bread malts, a hint of butter, onion and spice... light citrus--lemon grass, mostly--mixes with hay and pepper to build an intriguing introduction... first sip is medium-bodied, smooth and textured enough to be appreciated... lemon drop, hay and grass, lilac and flower, sweet bread and light spice, and a pervasive sweetness ... the Noble hops make this enjoyable and builds beyond the usual malty lager... Victory continues to make quality lagers, each a variation on the theme of being more than merely tailgating fare....

Tap at deep ellum
Nice foamy 2 Finger head in the tall mug, fades at a med pace, nice foamy lacing, crystal clear golden watery pilsner color.

Nose nice pilsner malt, grainy slight dough, toasty, wet hay and light straw, hint of grassy hop character, nice noble hop character though.

Taste nice crisp pilsner, light straw and dusty grain, toasty, little bready, hay and light must, with a hint of sulfur and mineral flavor like the water wasn't quite right for this beer. Mild grassy hops, way too light on the hops, little grassy noble hop. Bit of fruity flavor too, unwanted fruity. Finish is dry little straw and hint of hop, mostly gone though.

Mouth is light, decent carb, little watery.

Overall not impressed. Not a typical victory beer.

The clear pale golden yellow colored beer pours out into a Duvel glass with 1 1/2” fluffy white head that soon begins to slowly but visibly recede to a ring and an island of foam on the surface while leaving an open web of patches and legs of lacing on the sides of the glass. Sipping creates some scattered small patches of lacing, most of which cling to the sides of the glass.

The gentle aromas are filled with the earthy herbal spiciness of the Saaz hops. There’s also some nice light bready malt here.

The flavors are much as expected from the nose with the light earthy herbal spiciness from the hops backed up by the light bready malt backbone. The light sweetness from the malt is a nice counterbalance to the light spicy, earthy and herbal bitterness.

The mouthfeel is on the light side of medium bodied and a bit crisp with the persistent finely bubbled carbonation. The finish begins as the sweetness of the malt and the spicy earthy and herbal herbal bitterness both begin to slowly recedes and move toward the back of the palate where the long dry ending still shows just a bit of earthy and herbal bitterness.

Overall, this beer is a fresh, clean, crisp and refreshing. The subtle complexity of the aromas/flavors make this a very drinkable beer which I’m enjoying more than I do most Bohemian style Pils beers. It seems to me to be a pretty good example of the style and one that touches most or all of the bases, I could easily have this one again or more than one in a row.

-Can.

A: Pale golden straw pour shows a respectable amount of fluffy white capping that sticks long and true per style for visual sake. Good clarity, fair crisp carbonation with a small amount of window dressing.

S: Small Saaz spiciness on the nose, grainy pils malt, with hints of green apple. Damp floral notes and some spicy herbal.

T: The flavor was somewhat sweet from the grains, combined with some spicy Saaz hops, and some herbal hints. Green apple as with the nose, crackers, and some dank floral. A bit of musky straw rounds things out.

M: The mouthful was somewhat crisp, a decent lager base, with a yeasty bite.

O: Overall a pretty decent flavor for a small abv 4.4%. Yeasty, with some damp floral, crackers and pils malt. Musky at times, though the hops were not so much as a hip check, as an accidental bumping into. A single suffices.

Golden yellow in color with a slight chill haze. Poured with a bright white fizzy foam that quickly dissipated. Earthy floral hop aromas with buttery, biscuit malt beneath. Medium bodied with light but assertive carbonation. Very crisp and refreshing feel. Floral hop flavors up front with a biscuit malt backbone. Tangy, lightly spicy hop bite through the middle. Malt character is overcome by floral hoppiness at the finish as this finishes crisp and clean. An awesome summertime beer.
