Appearance: Pours espresso brown with a thin tan head that fades to a ringlet and archipelago; leggy, with a sheet of lacing
Smell: Roasted malt, chocolate, pecan and oak
Taste: Heavily roasted tones, up front, with some dark chocolate building; brown sugar, crust and pecan tones arrive, in the middle, along with an oak character that keeps the "pecan pie" element from becoming cloying; the finish is a bit acrid, however
Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with low to moderate carbonation
Overall: Innovation pulls off the pecan pie "surprise" successfully with this beer
