An American Brown Ale with a kick from El Dorado hops, our Makakilo Brown has a nice medium body with mild, toasty flavors obtained from the grains used in the brewing process.
Dark toasted bread and sweet hints of caramel play beautifully with the bright citrus and berry notes from El Dorado hops.

Bought a 6-pack cans $7.20 direct from brewery. Not a beer they normally can, but during Covid shut down they have started to can beers that you normally have to go to their bar to have.
Smell of faint coffee, caramel
Black/Dark Brown color
Medium mouthfeel
Medium carbonation
Some sweet caramel, coffee favors, some bitterness finish
Overall an ok beer. Nothing outstanding.

Blind Review
Look: Pours light brown and bright from the can. Appears light bodied. Barely translucent dark brown with some light brown highlights in the glass. A pinky finger of frothy, beige head. Pretty persistent and leaves spots of foam. Looks like a brown ale or dark lager. Nice looking beer.
Smell: Fresh hazelnut. Dominant sweeter malt aroma with some earthy hops. Milk chocolate, peanut brittle with the nutty and sweet caramel. Earthy and woody hop aroma.
Taste: A flash of malt sweetness on the tip of the tongue, and the beer quickly dries out with nutty, woody flavors and a hint of pithy bitterness. That lemon peel with espresso bitterness feeling. Maybe a little bit of traditional American bittering hops.
Feel: Medium level of carbonation and extremely smooth. A little sweet up front but it dries out quickly.
Overall: This beer is excellent. I think it’s an English style brown ale, which is one of my favorite styles. And this is one of better ones I’ve had.

September 14th, 2015 - After all the other samplers here at Honolulu Beerworks and the rich smells coming from the outside, this brew seems too timid to get a good grasp on. But it's pretty, like all the others, with a clean float of foam, and a nice dark red cherry colored body. The body is clean as well as the taste, but it doesn't really embolden itself until the aftertaste. Once there I get touches of cocoa, but overall this brew is too mild and too shy.
