Poured from a 12 oz can bought in North Carolina.
L - The beer is pitch black and no light comes through even when held up to the light. Thin, light tan head quickly fades to nothing, except a tiny ring around the glass that leaves lacing when swirled.
S - Deep, complex aromas, with chocolate, espresso, leather, burnt grain.
T - Flavors of an American-style Imperial Stout, emphasizing burnt grains (a bit acrid), bitter coffee, leather. Although the flavors are aggressive, they are not that deep or complex.
F - Medium to heavy body, slightly mouth-coating. Low to moderate carbonation. High apparent bitterness could come as much from acrid roasted grains as from hops. Some alcohol presence, but not much, given the ABV.
O - This is an in-your-face Imperial Stout with plenty of flavor. It is not the most interesting or complex example, but it is enjoyable and has no flaws that I can find.

Found this gem at The Beer Den in Wilmington, NC. Hat off to Brueprint for making something quite good. The look is black with a khaki head that dissipates quickly and left no lacing. The nose has roasted coffee, tobacco, and the blackberry is there but in a subtle way. The taste is more complex than the nose indicated to me. I also got burnt wood, jam and fruit notes. Low bitterness with a malty finish and a slightly creamy texture. A Stout to sip for sure.

Pours black but no head. Aroma and flavor are identical on this one - coffee, dark malts, spice, wood (cedar? oak?), and dark fruits. Smokey finish with a lingering warming feeling.

Khaki foam quickly rises and falls from half an inch, leaving a thin sheet above the black Brue (SRM 40). No significant lace is developed, but thin legs do coat a Dogfish Head snifter.
Deep roasted malt directs charred wood and cocoa powder, while oats and espresso dance in the background.
The entry is dominated by roasted malt that has surprisingly low bitterness with sweetness taking control. Flavor characteristics include milk chocolate, vanilla and faint licorice. A long finish is dominated by malt. Warmth causes development of Cool-Whip, marshmallow, and possibly light, caramelized sugar.
This beer has a full body with present alcohol that is short of warming. A soft creamy texture is accentuated by soft carbonation, while sugar builds on the lips.
As a special occasion dessert Stout, this can be considered easy drinking. I find myself curious about what this would have tasted like had I consumed it fresh. Midnight Brue was a surprising treat.

This is what I'm looking for in a stout smooth as silk and heavy. Great toasted malt flavor with Chocolate finish.

Pleasant aroma. Taste chocolatey and mellow. Smooth and easy to drink.
