A bit of a raunchy character but not necessarily unpleasant. This is my first tasting of Scotch Ale so maybe it's supposed to be this way? To my palate it's drinkable. Perhaps when I can put it into the proper context then I may just like it it's appropriate setting.

Labeled as part of brewery's "Brüetopian Series", bought in North Carolina in a 500 ml bottle.
L - Dark gold to light amber in color but appears darker due to heavy cloudiness. Thick, heavy, sticky head is light tan in color and fed by big sheets of constantly rising carbonation and strong lacing. Doesn't look like a Scotch Ale, but is attractive on its own.
S - Crisp aromas of white wine, oak and Brett smell fresh and clean. No maltiness comes through in the nose from the base style.
T - Sharp sour flavor hits first, then blends into softer flavors reminiscent of white wine. Strong oak and barnyard Brett hit in midpalate. No real malt or hops or base beer character come through. Dry, crisp finish with little to no aftertaste.
F - Medium body with fluffy, mouth-filling carbonation. Lemon juice-like sourness blends into bracing hops bitterness and light alcohol burn in the mid-to-late palate.
O - This is an interesting and enjoyable beer. After the wine barrel aging and souring It bears no obvious relation to the original beer, but it stands well on its own as a unique creation.
