Brewed in Belgium, PAX is a true Belgian Pilsner, crafted by master brewers since 1937. The passing of craftsmanship and tradition from father to son and of master brewer to master brewer is one of the most important values of Brewery Cornelissen. Our 3rd-generation brewer, Jaak Cornelissen, brought this Pilsner to the market in remembrance of World War 1 and named it PAX after the ‘Goddess of Peace’. It's a delicious malty Lager brewed according to the old Belgian ‘Pils’ brewing tradition.

Best before: 28/04/24
$13.99 4-pk @ Winter Springs Liquor
AROMA: Mildly sweet with mild scents of malt and bread. As the beer warms, I get ever-so-faint hints of green apple.
APPEARANCE: Pours a clear light-gold with a (barely) 1-finger, tight-froth, off-white, head that dissipates fairly quickly with decent lacing. It looks fine in my clear glass but the head needs to last much longer.
TASTE: Mildly sweet with mild flavors of malt and caramel. The finish has a touch of bitterness and mineral "tang".
MOUTHFEEL: Medium-bodied with a somewhat "grabby" texture. Carbonation seems slightly above-average. The finish is medium dry.
OVERALL: I can't say that I am bowled over by this beer. It has very simple flavors, aromas, and texture. Yet, somehow, I find myself enjoying it.
I don't know if I would ever buy this again, but only because I have a lot of other beers on my "try it" list. However, I would gladly drink another if I was ever offered one.

Brouwerij Cornelissen "Pax Pils"

Notes via stream of consciousness: Ah, what a cute little bottle of beer. It's 8.4 ounces, so about a half a pint. It's poured a clear golden body beneath a short head of white foam. I don't see a whole lot of bubbles rising within, and the head is dropping. In the nose it's clean and grainy with just a smear of hops. That's kind of disappointing but not every beer needs to be what you'd expect from the label. On to the taste then... the malt is sweet and bready, but it is balanced by a stiff bitterness. There are some hops there: herbal, grassy, floral, and spicy. It's definitely not what I'd expect of a "Pils" but I like it. It finishes with some residual sweet malt hanging out, but it's also bitter, floral, herbal, and spicy. I think it's a bit oxidized, giving the malt a fuller character than it might normally have, but I can't really be sure about that. It's intriguing, and quite charming. In the mouth it's medium bodied lightly zesty on the tongue which is weird because it doesn't really seem that carbonated. The bubbles are quite fine, and it seems like a natural carbonation although I know that it isn't. After the head dropped, which was fairly quickly, it has keep a fairly good collar to it, and the lacing is good as well. Overall I wouldn't spend the money for it again but it is unique. Scratch that, I would buy it if I knew it was fresh so that I could compare it to what I've tasted here.

Poured into a Stone gargoyle pint. Pours a light to medium golden amber with a two finger white head with food retention and nice lacing. Aroma of bready malt, Belgian yeast, apple, lemon and grassy hops. Flavor is light bready pilsner malt, Belgian yeast, lemon and mild grassy hops.Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. A mellow pilsner with aroma and favor rather dialed back. I'm a big fan of Belgian yeast, and that's the best part of this one; the mild fruit from the yeast is novel for a pilsner and adds character. The flavor and hops are lighter than expected, but the overall profile is quite nice. This would be more interesting with some more flavor depth. Pleasant enough, but not exciting.

Pale gold, small off white head, sparce lacing. Sweet malts pushed aside herbal hops in the aroma. Flavor had a mineral-like edge; not unpleasant, just unexpected. Did have kind of a zesty quality once you get past the taste of biscuits. Finished on a spicy note. A fresher sample would probably score higher.

Crisp but kinda bland overall in flavor. Some off flavors. I guess it could be a good session beer, if you don’t pick up same off flavors as I did. . It was at a good price as well.

Poured from a 16.9 oz. can. Has a golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of malts, light grains. Taste is the same as the aroma,a bit on the mild side. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall it ain't bad. I will agree with other reviewers that it drinks more like a German Pils than a Czech one.

My most recent visit to Rieker Bottle Works saw me finding this one in the downstairs walk-in cooler! Sure, it's a Bottle (eek!), but I am a sucker for imported Pilsners. Why? They never made the national mistake of Prohibition & as such, they are almost guaranteed to be adjunct-free! I CANnot tell you how many AALs I drank at the beginning of The CANQuest (tm), but those days are in my rear-view now.
From the Bottle: "The Peacemaker (Vredesticher) Since (sinds) 1937".
I Pop!ped the cap in order to start a slow, gentle C-Line pour. This resulted in the formation of just over a finger's worth of foamy, soapy, rocky, bone-white head with decent retention. Color was Yellow-Gold (SRM = 4 - 5) with NE-quality clarity, engendering The Gelt Gang of Mammon, Midas & Croesus to join me for a taste. Nose held a pronounced malty sweetness, more towards what I would expect in a German Pils. Hmm. Mouthfeel was approaching medium, on the big side for a Lager. The taste was still too sweet for the style, lacking any appreciable hoppiness. Has it been misidentified? It was not a bad beer, per se, but there was no way that it was cutting it as a Czech Pils. It almost completely lacked any sort of hops presence throughout. Instead, it had an emphasis on its maltiness, which was okay in the main, but inappropriate for the style. Finish was in that twilight zone between semi-sweet & semi-dry. I was left scratching my head after this one. It was kind of a mystery. Hey, at 330-ml & an inexpensive price point, I am satisfied. YMMV.

Cerveza ligera, de carbonatación media, y una cabeza espumosa de dos dedos de buena retención. Aromas a malta y un poco de caramelo. En boca es mas débil y destaca la malta.

500ml can, with so much worldly (especially Asian) script on the label that I first had difficulty discerning this one's Belgian production origins.
This beer pours a crystal clear, bright pale golden yellow colour, with three fingers of puffy, rocky, and somewhat creamy bone-white head, which leaves some blotchy and sudsy lace around the glass as it quickly blows off.
It smells of bready and doughy pale malt, a subtle earthy yeastiness, mild Teutonic petrol notes, ethereal pome and aged lemon fruity esters, and some plain leafy, weedy, and dead grassy green hop bitters. The taste is crackery and grainy pale malt, further biscuity cereal essences, ephemeral Continental gasohol, an equally hard to discern Low Countries yeastiness, some muddled citrus and stone fruitiness, and more understated earthy, musty, and floral verdant hoppiness.
The carbonation is fairly active in its palate-pinging frothiness, the body a so-so medium weight, and not particularly smooth, what with the yeast and noble hops clumsily milling about. It finishes off-dry, the cereal malt and wan fruity character ruling the lingering day.
Overall, this is a rather mixed-up beast, to say the least - there's no such thing as a Belgian lager of any sorts listed on this site, so I can see why it exists here as it does. But if I had my druthers with this one, it would certainly be more German than Czech, which is splitting hairs, of course, as the yeasty component is all Belgian. Brave 'new' world, I suppose.

On-tap 6/18/2014 at Track 84, in Warwick, RI served in a US tumbler pint glass.
A: The beer is a light yellow color, with a thin white head that fades slowly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.
S: The aroma is very faint but contains lager yeast, light caramelized malts and a touch of hops.
T: The taste starts out with some malt sweetness that is followed by mild flavors of caramel and citrus. Then some lager yeast and grain breadiness comes in. The hops presence is mild and brings some balance. The after-taste is slightly bready.
M: A little crisp and a little smooth, light-to-medium body, medium carbonation, finish is clean.
O: A little tasty, goes down easily, not filling at all, mild kick, good representation of style, it’s a decent beer to drink if you’re in the mood for the style but there are others in the style that I would pick first.

S: German pilsener hops and yeast, pineapple, hard water.
T: Water, malt, pizzeria fresh dough, a metallic background like very hard water.

O: Michael Jackson supposedly had highly recommended it so I had high expectations. Its fine, but really not outstanding.

330ml bottle with no detail about freshness date poured into a mug.
A:
Clear but not crystal clear with a slight cloudy body, gold straw in color with average thick short-life white head, it yields some wee and tiny size of laces once receded, rather light carbonation.
S:
Sweet biscuity malt, mild buttery along with spicy floral hop.
T:
Soft malty on the palate, flash of lemony hop with a bit grassy note, spicy and floral are also derived from hop at the same time. The expected bitterness from hop is vague at first but continues to grow sip by sip along with hint of biscuity malt at the end of each tasting process.
M:
The body is light to medium, semi-smooth mouthfeel with some lively crisp from moderate carbonation, dry and clean finish.
O:
In fact I don’t feel anything at first but it strangely develops on me after several sips. At least I would define it as above average lager with rather good hop quality.

Pours a clouded straw gold with very little head. Nose is metallic with a good bit of yeast and some sugar there too. Flavor is tangy, but a bit too thin as it goes towards a metallic edge fairly soon and then gives you a really strong metallic aftertaste. Feel is nice with a thick body from ingredients but a milder carbonation. Overall this is a unique brew. However I think it lacks quality and a real strong positive character. Nice to try, but I doubt I will go back to it.

Pours out golden straw and sits bright golden-yellow in the glass with a good sized creamy white head. Fades to a decent skim with lacings all around. Solid looks.
Smells crisp, lightly malty with hints of lemon zest. Mild crackery core with grassy hop trimmings.
Tastes purely of crisp pils malt, dry and crackery, grassy hop flavors and hints of honeysuckle. Medium bitterness and clean, lasting finish.
Fairly light in the mouth, carbonation is moderate but giving. Crispness is its top quality.
A very nice pils, a summer sucker if you will. Definately check it out, it will not dissapoint. I realize there is not much to say about this, but as Pilseners go, that's probably a good thing. It speaks for itself in taste.
