Cloudy, vibrant orange with a white head that leaves sheets of lacing. Creamy tropical fruit aroma, including papaya, pineapple and citrus. This continues to the taste coupled with a modest bitterness and hint of toasted herbs. Really creamy mouthfeel. Delicious.

A: Pours a gorgeous almost honey-esque yellow/orange color with about a finger of tightly packed white bubbles sitting atop. Very hazy and turbid, yet just enough transparency to give that "glowing" effect in the glass. Head dissipates rather quickly, but lacing is abundant.

S: Rich tropical fruits dominate up front. I get lots of candied, almost chalky and vitamin-esque fruit notes in the vein of pineapple/papaya/mango chalk sweets. Very light citrus (think lemon, lime, maybe orange) is there too, but the rest of the nose is really filled out by a rather strong note of pine--more needle-y than sappy. Gets a bit 'danker' as it warms, with some more weedy/herbal notes overcoming the pine needle aroma.

T: Tastes follows the nose rather closely. Tropical chalk candies up front quickly transition into bright citrus (all lemon, lime) and finishes with more chalky pineapple, mango, and a moderately bitter piney dankness. The aftertaste is very herbaceous--green herbs bordering on grass with a healthy bitter kick to balance out a very sweet initial taste. I suspect the Nelson is responsible for some of that chalkiness, helping to dry out the flavors of an otherwise very juicy beer.

M: Pillowy soft and creamy. Even with a week in the growler, this one has medium carbonation that's perfectly distributed and just enough to carry the beer across the tongue. Not the slightest hint of alcohol on the taste, and nicely balanced on the bitter vs. sweet scale.

O: This one really reminds me of Monkish IPAs. That chalky tropical fruit note along with the bitter, grassy finish are very reminiscent of some of the best west coast takes on the NE-style that I've tried. For me, this falls somewhere between Albatross and Mammoth in my preference list of BG DIPAs. It's well balanced and dangerously easy to drink. It isn't completely blowing my mind as Albatross did, but the list of DIPAs that I prefer to this is pretty short!

Look: Pours an amazing hazy light orange color with that typical Brew Gents fluffy head and amazing lacing and lace retention!

Smell: Tons of citrus, tropical fruits, some grassy notes, and some pine!

Taste: Bright notes of citrus and tropical fruits, a bit of grass which is a bit different for these guys, and maybe some hints of white wine/champagne type notes!

Feel: Medium bodied.

Overall: Another killer DIPA from the crew at Brew Gents! This is right up there with the rest of their DIPAs! This one needs to be inserted into the DIPA rotation! I would revisit this one in a heartbeat!

 

Solid. Less juicy from the growler than I recall fresh from the tap, but undeniably thick. Bitter on the nose but not the palate - the palate is more dominated by a thick and creamy profile. Great, but not brilliant.
