A: Typical, beautiful BG appearance... Hazy gold with some straw yellow, darker bits bordering on orange. Incredible head retention and lacing on the glass, especially after being in a growler for 5 days.

S: Bright, unsweet citrus (lemon, lime, yellow grapefruit.. maybe a hint of just barely sweet orange), lots of pine, grass, and mint. Wonderful mix of earth and citrus aromatics. Big nose for 6.2%... Really pops out of the glass.

T: Extremely refreshing yet pungent. Follows with tons of pine, grass, lemon, and yellow grapefruit on the initial taste. It's a barrage of flavor, starting with the earthier (yet not dank) flavors and transitioning to the fruitier notes. Big pine and herbal-y grass up front transitions quickly into tart lemon and ultimately just barely sweet grapefruit. Mid-palate is where this super rich, creamy, uber doughy malt character peaks through and asserts itself and a distinct sweetness, which builds toward the finish and accents the aforementioned citrus flavors very nicely. There's also something eucalyptus-like in the finish, something cooling and minty.

M: Perfectly carbonated with a medium to medium-plus body that suits the beer quite well. It's a true pleasure to drink--silky and mouth-coating, but not cloying. There is a medium piney bitterness that builds over time, but the beer is notably sweeter than most pales/IPAs in this ABV range, making for a rather balanced drinking experience. In fact, it actually finishes a touch sweeter than I'd like, but just barely... The added sweetness makes this a perfect beer to drink on a day like today in NYC, where we're experiencing a rare "cool" 60-degree day in mid-summer.

O: Another impressive offering from Brew Gentlemen. I continue to be blown away by how finely crafted their beers are. Each of those I've had so far have been both intensely flavorful yet extremely easy to drink. Merry Crystal is no exception, capturing some of the earthier and more unique aspects of Amarillo and packaging them in an impactful yet balanced IPA.
