This is a west coast style called "California Common," also known as "Steam Beer." It is unique in its use of US Northern Brewer hops having a minty/woody quality that when combined with a simple malt bill produces an interestingly refreshing brew.

Hate to give a bad first review, but I just didn't really enjoy this one. There might have been some correctable flaws in this batch as there were some aspects that were fine.
Pours a dark amber that Durant get to brown but tries. Lovely sustaining head and moderate lacing.
Nose has a light popcorn box note to it. A wheat toast can be sensed as well.
Light buttery note, then an amber ale like maltiness. A little toast in there, a slight metal note, and a clean bitterness. Little more malty than the few commons I've had, but nothing bad in the makeup beyond the first aspect.
Just didn't work for me. I'm willing to give it another go on another batch, just to see if it's me or not.
