On tap at brewery:
Pours a deep brown/black with a little mahogany light peaking through at the edges. Wonderful cap of light beige head adorns this pour, with sheets of lacing.
Nose is a sweet wood smokiness-light on char. There's a fruitiness (I want to say cherry) that combines nicely with the smoke. There's also a light sweetness, like a brown sugar encrusted smoked ham.
Taste follows the nose mostly, but the smoke is balanced a bit more. The malty sweetness is perhaps higher than it should be - leaning this beer towards smoky stout in my mind.
Feel is soft, medium full (again, could drop that a degree), and easy on the palate.
I do believe this is fairly fresh, given the brewery's production. It could use some tightening up before going larger scale, but this was a joy to drink drink this visit to the brewery.
