16 oz can
Pours dark reddish brown near black with a dense creamy light tan brown colored foam head. Smells roasty and sweet with notes of dark chocolate, coffee, caramel, toffee, brown sugars, molasses, toasty bready roasted malts, graham cracker, some dark dried fruits, hint of peppery spice, and herbal earthy grassy floral hops. Tastes like ashy charred dark roasted toasty bready malts, baking chocolate, smoky espresso black coffee, caramel, toffee, burnt brown sugars, blackstrap molasses, pretzel, some dark dried raisiny fruit, a hint of peppery spice, with herbal earthy grassy floral hops. Feels medium plus bodied, creamy and smooth with fairly crisp and refreshing moderate carbonation. Overall a real nice black lager.

Poured from a can into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a deep brown color bordering on black, with a small head of tan colored foam. The head has a good level of retention, fading and leaving some spiderweb lacing on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is heaviest of a lightly toasted smell mixed with notes of cola and coffee. There are notes of a cocoa nip and some must and grain in there as well.
Taste – The taste starts with a dark roasted and toasted taste with notes of char and coffee and a touch of cocoa. The sweetness is light, with just a hint of cola and some brown sugar, both of which grow slightly stronger as the taste advances. Some herbal and earthy hop join in as the coffee gets more bitter in nature as the taste moves on, adding a bit of a bite to the taste. At the end, the bitter and sweet subside a touch, leaving one with a moderately smooth and very roasty taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body is full with a thicker texture and a moderate carbonation level. For the flavors the feel is rather fitting, adding a more stout like feel to the rather dark and robust lager.
Overall – A quite roasty and toasty lager with a bigger than anticipated roast and thickness for a 5.8 % abv beer. Pretty decent overall.

Near black where no light passes through. Lasting beige head. Good lacing with interconnecting streaks forming a delicate web.
Strong burnt black patent malt aroma. This smells like a dry Irish Stout.
The body is thinner as the style dictates. The carbonation is high. The beginning flavors are of lighter malts, even a bit bready. The swallow draws out the bittering black patent malt. Relatively modest aftertaste.
