I thought this was their flagship but no, bartender said it was their pilsner. This pours a golden BMC like level color and clarity. It looks well done, industry standard 1/2" white small bubbled head on the top, average retention, didn't see much in the way of lacing. Aroma delivered on the top most important things, the lager yeast and the hops. The hops aren't pungent in the levels of humulus lager, but they are present and respectable mostly old school, maybe Simcoe hop. The lager yeast is obvious and just slightly that skunk hint I prefer.
Taste is quite bangable, I suspect there is some Chinook/Cascade/Centennial hops here instead of just going traditional and all noble hops? Just had a more aggressive and citrus grapefruit character to it instead of the prickly and peppery occasion of Euro noble hopped beer, and the ibus were bigger than the standard 20-30 ibu for a lager. Body is a cracker cardboard lightness that is unoffensive and out of the way with its pale toasted malts.
One of Pigeonhead's better offerings. I think if they went with a double dry hopped batch or some sexier proprietary hops it would be a welcome variation. I know they have Mosaic, but they seem to be a very minor quantity comparatively.
