Pour is a deep cola brown, with a nice finger plus of light brown foam that lingers decently well leaving some lacing as I drink, but not a lot.
Nose is rich toasty grains. There's layers of both milk and bakers chocolate and black coffee in there as well.
A little more roast to the grains, but there's still a lot more dark dark malts and some char. Dark roast coffee and a bit of faint creaminess that really is more feel than taste.
Sharp carbonation breaks through a smoothe body that has a bit of a bitter char finish.
The lady at the beer store in Reno asked if I was into hazies and pastries. I told her I wasn't really, and she said she'd really been enjoying this one and felt like it flew under the radar. I fully agree, as this is right up my alley. Cheers!

Is this really retired? I bought 12 cans of this recently, still have a few in my fridge. Pours a dark brown and black color, certainly less than stout viscosity, this is appropriate for schwarzbier. Aroma of slightly roasted malt.
Taste was interesting. Seemed far more hoppy and bitter than their info board at the brewery would indicate (something like 8 ibu, you're kidding me right? When I drink this I think 30ibu territory). Perhaps the carbonation is a bit high and that is contributory to the Saaz hops. There's those chocolate and coffee notes from the malt, but they're pretty mild. Shitty grandma candy malt tones along the lines of toffee.
I don't mind 4 oz of this at a time, but 16 oz at a time does become a bit of a grind.
