Went and got a flight at Pigeonhead. This was the second selection for the flight. 1st review on BA.
Amber ipa is amber colored. 1/2" off white head. Aroma is mostly caramel, there is a big of CTZ and Warrior hops that smell a lot like Nugget, but I could just be associating amber ipa with all things nugget nectar so who knows. Didn't really seem like dry hopping or aroma hops were going on.
Taste is better than your average amber ale, but still is too malty for my tastes. Still trying to get a handle on the Warrior hop, like I said, comes off like a Nugget bittering hop, woody bitterness, leaves, like an earthier Simcoe and not as pronounced. At the end of the day, it had all the usual trappings of an amber ale, but also the usual things that make it easy to check out in a flight. Doesn't seem all that popular, haven't seen them put it back in the rotation since then and I had to add it here to the database. Hid the alcohol decently.
