quality, easy down, nice coffee freshness, way more vibrant on the coffee than in the turkish coffee black lager, this has more brightness and also a lot more nuance, cocoa and hazelnut notes in aroma and flavor from the java, but its not so bold that the base beer cannot be appreciated, like i still get the familiar slightly fruity kolsch yeast character and a little blonde malty sweet thing too, a german essence to the grain, it all sets the coffee up very well, nice proportions in this. no coffee showing in the pour really, maybe a tint darker than a normal kolsch would look, but also maybe not, short white head on it, some shine, lots of carbonation. the coffee is there the whole way in the taste to me, definite cocoa to it, a raisin fruitiness too, awesome with the yeast in this, and then a dry, abrupt, and snappy finish where i taste as much grain as coffee but the whole thing stays light. a touch of brown sugar and toffee rush back, but the coffee brings almost no bitterness, so the aftertaste is really nice. drinkable with such a light body, really nice dosing of the coffee, has to be a cold brew or something as the acid is nonexistent here. i have been loving coffee in lighter beers in recent years, and this is a good one. among my favorites from our visit to this hip little spot!
