750 mL unlabelled bottle picked up fresh from the brewery; served slightly chilled. A quad is pretty ambitious for a 3 month-old brewery, especially with only one other 'Belgian-style' beer in their portfolio to date, but I guess you miss all the shots you don't take.
This ale pours a dark, murky brownish-ruby colour, with crimson highlights under the light. It's topped with about a half-inch of creamy, light beige-coloured froth that quickly wilts, leaving behind only a narrow collar and soapy film. No lace... doesn't really look like a quad, other than the hue I guess. The aroma consists of a pleasant mixture of dark malts, molasses, fig newton, raisin and herbal licorice notes.
Possibly the most rich-tasting of their beers to date, save for that breakfast stout. Very malty and fruity, with notes of raisin, plum, vanilla, molasses and brown sugar sweetness. Mild boozy sweetness in the finish, with an herbal note that briefly brushes the palate before fading. Not particularly yeasty. I like the way this beer tastes, but the mouthfeel is where things stumble a bit. The carbonation is extremely weak to begin with (in spite of the full-bodiedness of this brew), and it all starts to feel a little syrupy as you make your way through the bottle. Not a fan. A decent sipper, and due to the well-masked alcohol, surprisingly drinkable.

Got a gusher this year, which is never a fun start - maybe it's my bad for serving it at cellar temp. I've tried this 3 separate times over 3 years and I suppose if nothing else, it's consistent. Too much residual sweetness, and a very limp mouthfeel. Strike Four is an average effort by Belgian Quad standards, but taking it as just a generic, strong dark ale there's nothing that wrong with it. The taste is agreeable enough, and the alcohol is not too overpowering. It has always been reassuring to see that my local brewery is unafraid to swing for the fences, but this one still isn't there yet.
Final Grade: 3.52, a B grade.
