Pours a nice caramel colour with a large frothy head. Malty and somewhat bitter on the nose and smell. Not tropical or juicy at all. You can definitely feel and taste the higher alcohol content

A deep, semi cloud orange-Amber colour with an inch thick head, slowly fades into a nice spotted cap

Enjoyable aromas, tropical like many DIPAs and NEIPAs, this one is particular on the pineapple and mango. Grassy and floral hop notes take a background note here, along with grapefruit and lemon peel. Mild wheaty, caramel malts as well.

Nice mild bitter character balances a gentle grainy, toffee like malt on the finish. Though that’s not what you came for, is it? The main star of the flavour profile is a nice piney, grassy, strong grapefruit character. Grapefruit peel, zesty flesh, and pith. General tropical fruits are here but not as strong as a NEIPA, they take a backseat to the citrus notes, but some mango is apparent.

A nice astringency to this beer, which is medium bodied and fairly bitter. Alcohol is well hidden, and the finish is balanced. Moderate carbonation foams easily in the mouth to create a creamy sip.

Either my palate developed remarkably fast in the month I’ve been drinking craft and had my first DIPA and found it too bitter, or this is just really quite drinkable for the high IBU profile. I know IBU doesn’t necessarily correlate exactly to bitterness, but I found it relatively mild for a DIPA. This does allow the character of the hops to come out and bring their flavours out, including the mellow ones. People who don’t enjoy too much hops may still pass on this, but still don’t let the hop profile scare you too much, this is quite tasty and balanced in flavours. It is not overwhelming on the hops. And while it’s not the craziest DIPA I’ve ever had, it’s quite refreshing and enjoyable.

Better than expectations for an LCBO offering, toned down in fact slightly watered down acceptable higher hoppy mix. Quaffable stuff. Lots of lace.

473 ml can served cold into a St. Pauli girl mug. Canning date is November 23 2021.

Appearance- amber brew with orange highlights. Big finger plus of white head and good staying power and spidery lacing. Medium amount of haze.

Smell- piney and resinous with hints of mango and cantaloupe as well beyond the initial west coast burst.

Taste- resin and some piney qualities with lots of grapefruit. A bit of mango and cantaloupe as well. Fairly assertive bitterness

Mouthfeel- fairly full bodied, sticky and with moderate carbonation. Prickly finish.

Overall- pretty good west coast Dipa with good flavour. Wish the nose was a bit stronger but tasty and full of flavour.

750 mL bottle from the brewery; served slightly chilled. The first in a reportedly ongoing series of new IPAs from Refined Fool.

Pours a cloudy golden-peach hue, producing nearly two fingers of fluffy white-coloured foam. It lasts past the five minute mark, steadily seeping downward into an attractively creamy cap and frothy collar. Generously laced, too. Tropical fruit and grapefruit citrus dominate on the nose, with additional notes of apricot, floral hops and pine resin contributing to the bouquet. Mild hints of caramelized sugar, indicating the presence of a decent malt backbone, as well as suggestions of their house yeast character.

Oooh, me like. Pale malt sweetness and a few hints of caramel are immediately overtaken by an impressive range of yummy, fruit-estery flavours. Apricot/peach is a big one, with complementary notes of mango, pineapple and orange. The citrusy flavour becomes more pithy and grapefruit-oriented on the back end, with a floral, resiny bitterness taking over the finish. Tropical fruit and astringency in the aftertaste, with the latter facet lingering on the palate for significantly longer. On the thicker side of medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation levels that imbue a near-crisp bite to the mouthfeel. Feels smooth on the palate, and hides its reasonably strong alcohol content well. Quite well-balanced and drinkable for a 100 IBU DIPA.

Final Grade: 3.85, a B+. That's When Ted Fought the Mailman easily earns a hearty thumbs up from this hophead. Its strengths lie within its delectable tropical fruit flavour, satisfying mouthfeel and overall quaffability - it's not too complex or unique, but everything comes together quite nicely. In fact, I think I like this one a bit more than their year-round DIPA. Reminds me of what an imperial version of Pouch Envy might end up tasting like.
