750 mL bottle from the brewery; served slightly chilled.
Pours a turbid mustard-yellow colour, equipped with one finger of loose, short-lived white froth on the surface. It fizzles off over the next 90 seconds, leaving the surface quite barren. Not very visually attractive, and the nose is not a major improvement because it barely smells like much of anything at all. There are a few suggestions of wet straw, apricot, unventilated gym bag and freezer bananas that have been thawed out and left on the counter for an afternoon.
I was a bit worried, but it's basically agreeable and approachable in terms of flavour. More stone fruity apricot/nectarine-type juicy sweetness, lemony citrus peel, and a prominent focus on banana. Light clove spice on the back end, with a yeasty, fruity aftertaste that lingers. Medium in body, with prickly, aggressive carbonation levels and a slick mouthfeel that coats the palate with each sip. I am not sold on this one, but one thing I will give it credit for is that it manages to hide its abv masterfully well.

Bomber from the brewery. This second release seems to have improved somewhat, both in terms of visual appeal and texture. It manages to retain a thin, dense cap for more than five minutes; still no lace, though. The aroma and flavour profile are still as described previously - lots of banana and yeast. Decent body, with lively carbonation like you might expect from a bottle conditioned Belgian ale.
Refined Fool has been quite prolific with regards to releasing a wide variety of one-offs, but to me, Belgian-style beers have never really been their strongest suit. There's no doubt that they're difficult styles to replicate, and Denim Denim Denim is at best a respectable attempt at doing so. I'm still not in love with this beer, but it grew on me a little as it warmed and is generally a decent strong ale. OK, but not something to go out of your way for.
Final Grade: 3.27, a C+
