650 mL bottle fresh from the brewery and served lightly chilled. Described as a 'blood orange wheat ale'. Reviewed on my phone.
Pours a turbid golden apricot colour, topped with one finger of loose, soapy white froth which quickly evaporates. Not much in the way of remants; the surface is mostly bare after 90 seconds. Muddled fruit on the nose, mostly of the citrusy stripe - blood orange sanguine and grapefruit along with notes of apricot, banana and wet grass. Enjoyable aroma.
A very straightforward wheat ale, but also very refreshing. The grainy, bready pale malt sweetness of the wheat backbone is consistently subtle, with the citrus ingredient gobbling up the remainder of your taste buds' attention. Blood orange, white grapefruit and lemon zest, finishing with hints of grassy, floral hop bitterness. Dry aftertaste. Light in body, with lively, prickly carbonation that reinforces that 'sanguine' vibe I was already getting. Crisp and thirst-quenching.
Final Grade: 3.84, a solid B+. Tiny Pony Withdrawal is the latest in a continuing series of fruit-infused wheat ales from Refined Fool, and is definitely one of their best yet. A prime candidate for hot patio weather, so I will more than likely return to it this summer if it remains available. A must-try for all Radler enthusiasts.
