Bomber purchased at the brewery; served slightly chilled. Reviewed on my phone.
Pours a cloudy chestnut-brown colour, with one finger off-white head that fades within 60 seconds. A thin collar remains, with little in the way of lace. Dark chocolate, brown sugar, toasted hazelnut and coconut on the nose. Hints of vanilla, molasses and dark fruit.
Flavours are along the same lines, with a nice dark malt dominated backbone. Cocoa, coffee, treacle, caramel and vanilla mingle with the toasted coconut notes. Nutty, bittersweet finish that persists into the aftertaste. Light in body, with lively carbonation and a crisp, prickly texture. Highly drinkable; no real complaints with this one.
Final Grade: 3.95, a worthy B+. Refined Fool's Tiny Umbrella is a genuinely solid brown ale. I am not a big fan of coconut, but I must admit that it is a lovely complement to the sweet, nutty flavours typically associated with this style. Worth a try.
