Bomber from the brewery; no packaging date and served slightly chilled. Made with Sabro hops and Maris Otter malt.
Pours a hazy, translucent pale golden colour, topped with nearly one finger of loose, soapy white head that collapses within two minutes or so. A sudsy collar and filmy cap are left behind, with minimal lace production - it looks alright, but the nose is a bit more promising with its honeydew melon, orange and stone fruit. There's even a hint of grape and a vaguely evergreen-like aroma in there.
A serviceable little pale ale - I'm getting plenty of tangerine, along with hints of coconut, overripe plum and honeydew melon. Doughy, nutty malts and a twinge of butterscotch towards the finish, with more coconut and stone fruitiness lasting into the aftertaste. Light-ish in body, with average carbonation levels that gently agitate the surface of the palate, but the mouthfeel is relatively smooth. Easy enough to toss back - this bomber shouldn't present much of an obstacle for most pale ale fans.
Final Grade: 3.66, a B grade. Bring in the AV Cart was unique enough to be intriguing, but not quite good enough to be worth going out of your way for. I am no fan of Sabro hops, though I didn't really mind them here - though I'm still not sure if that 'butterscotch' was merely diacetyl, or some weird interaction/sensation between the malts and that coconut-like note. I don't regret the purchase, but it's not something I'd return to in a hurry, especially not at 'small batch bomber' prices.
