650 mL bottle from the brewery; no packaging date. Served slightly chilled.
Pours a hazy pale yellow colour, fitted with an inch-thick cap of frothy, bubbly white foam that settles off within a few minutes' time. It leaves behind a gorgeous coat of sticky lacing, in addition to a sudsy collar and filmy cap - looks fine. The nose is relatively subdued, offering up hints of melon, papaya and citrus, with suggestions of stone fruit and grainy pale malts.
As far as session IPAs go, this one ain't half bad - I'm mostly getting subtle, fruity hop flavours that include grapefruit, melon, pineapple and apricot. Grainy, wheaty malts underneath, finishing with weakly pithy hop bitterness followed by lingering hints of stone fruit and mango into the aftertaste. Light in body, with assertive carbonation that feels crisp and prickly on the palate; smooth and pretty refreshing, with excellent drinkability.
Final Grade: 3.69, a B grade. Like Dad, Only Better is a rather appealing session IPA that I don't have any major objections to. Not bitter at all, and moderately fruity - I don't know if I'd go so far as to use the term 'juicy', but it's at least aimed in that direction. As always, my session IPA disclaimer applies: I am not a big fan, so I don't tend to seek them out/return to them frequently, but I can still appreciate a good one like this. Not worth the price tag, but I can enjoy it for what it is.
