473 mL can from the brewery; dated Jul 11 2022 and served slightly chilled.
Pours foggy and effervescent, its body a bright golden-yellow hue; it's topped with roughly two fingers of smooth, foamy white head that collapses within three minutes' time. A half-inch ring of lace is splattered about in the process, which also leaves behind a tight collar and filmy cap. Fruity-sweet, mildly tart aroma of strawberry, orange and lemon, loaded with sugary fruit punch-iness.
Drinks like sour fruit punch: tart off the hop, with lemon-lime giving way to hints of strawberry & juicy orange by mid-sip. Grainy malt sweetness underneath, with a touch of lactic acidity barely lasting into a fruity-sweet aftertaste of citrus and berries. Light in body, with assertive carbonation that adds a firm bite to this brew, remaining crisp and tongue-scrubbing right down to the last gulp. A well-rounded, light and approachable brew that met my expectations for a 'fruit punch sour'.
Final Grade: 3.81, a B+. A quality kettle sour that contributes to a good cause - what's not to like? I am not a huge fan of 'fruit punch' beers in general, but Marsha Was A Riot is easily one of the more decent ones I've come across. It leans heavily on the citrus, but the strawberry also shines through quite nicely, possibly because it's the only berry in this punch (i.e. there's no cherry, raspberry, et al. to overpower and/or dilute the strawberry's relatively subtle flavour). I'd buy this again next year.
