473 mL can from the brewery; no date and served slightly chilled. Merry late Christmas BA!
Pours a turbid golden-orange colour, with more than three fingers of soapy, foamy white head erupting from the surface. It dies off surprisingly quickly - a little over five minutes later, it has been reduced to a generously frothy collar surrounding a sudsy cap. A single line of delicate lace snakes around the perimeter of the glass - looks great. My first sniff was grapefruit juice, with notes of strawberry and raspberry also coming through pretty clearly; also a few hints of stone fruit and orange juice.
An interesting IPA with a fruity flavour profile - citrusy at the front end, with grapefruit and orange eventually giving way to peach, pineapple and subtle coconut. A little pithy and floral towards the finish, with some woodsy, weakly piney bitterness that is immediately subsumed by a fruity aftertaste of berries, citrus and coconut. Medium in body, with moderate carbonation that adds some spritz to this brew's smooth, fluffy mouthfeel; fair drinkability, but one can per evening is plenty for me.
Final Grade: 3.71, a B grade. This Cult Has Great Taste in Wallpaper is one of those IPAs that simply smells better than it tastes. That doesn't necessarily make this a poor beer, but to experience a great aroma followed by a relatively average flavour is inherently disappointing. There are some really nice things about this beer though, so it might be worth tweaking and fiddling with the recipe - in its current state, however, I wouldn't rush back for more.
