I think this brew has been rebranded, since it's now appearing in the Beer League winter pack, but the labelling indicates it's a 6% American IPA. Rating it as such and not as a porter/ Canned September 11, 2024.
Appearance - Fairly hazy coppery colored brew with a finger of loose off-white head on top. Good staying power.
Smell - Non-descript leafy hoppy brew with some noble hops added as well as some more traditional ones for IPA's. Certainly not the most intense nose.
Taste - Muddled flavors, a bit of a diluted citrus bomb with some leafy aspects in there as well and possibly a touch of black tea. Finishes more bitter than it started.
Mouthfeel - Well carbonated, fizzy and dry finish.
Overall - Decent WCIPA but nothing terribly special. The name and artwork is pretty great though.

UPDATE: Refined Fool has been re-using beer names. Jean Skier was originally a gingerbread porter, but it is now an IPA.
473 mL can from the brewery, one of four from their "Winter Danger Sports Pack". Dated Dec 1 2022 and served barely chilled.
Pours an opaque jet black hue with copper-red highlights, crowned with more than two fingers of billowing, foamy, light tan-coloured head that lasts for a little over five minutes. A half-inch band of even lace sticks to the glass, with a creamy collar and cap floating upon the surface - a very attractive porter. Spicy, herbal and earthy aroma with ginger at the center of it all; there's also cocoa, molasses, dark chocolate and a touch of vanilla, with hints of roasted grain.
It's a serviceable porter: a little sweet perhaps, but the ginger integrates well. Caramelized sugars and molasses at first, with gingerbread dominating the middle of the sip. The tail end adds roasted grains, dark chocolate and earthiness, with gingerbread, cocoa and a touch of vanilla dissipating into a semi-sweet, slightly roasty aftertaste. Medium in body, with a smooth, slick mouthfeel and relatively soft carbonation; not as sticky as the other porter in this mix-pack, but there's still some 'stick factor'. No sign of the 6.8%.
Final Grade: 3.69, a B grade. If you enjoy gingerbread stouts/porters, then Jean Skier might be relevant to your interests. It's better than the hazelnut espresso porter (Cross Country Sniper), but that's mostly a matter of taste - Sniper was kind of sugary, while Skier is spicier, and also a little more balanced IMO. I also suspect that they might be the same base porter flavoured in two different ways - and in both cases, I think it's a one-and-done for me. Hopefully the pair of stouts will fare better.
