This collaboration brew with the good people at Wellington Brewery celebrates the beer-soluble oil components of hops which have a high impact on finished beer aroma—commonly referred to as “survivable” compounds. Yes, it’s super nerdy. But thanks to those survivors, it’s also super tasty. 25 IBU

473 mL can from the brewery; dated Feb 9 2023 and served slightly chilled.

Pours a hazy, translucent lemon drop yellow colour, sporting an inch-thick head of soapy, foamy white head that lasts for three or four minutes. A creamy, frothy cap and collar stick around for considerably longer, with a half-inch coat of full lace draped across the glass. Grapefruit, pine sap, cherries and melon on the nose, with hints of oak, lime and orange peel.

A highly pleasant, downright quaffable light IPA: hints of melon, berries and peach at the forefront, with grapefruit and orange peel developing mid-sip. Suggestions of pineapple, pine needles and cherries on the back end, with stone fruit lingering into the aftertaste. Light in body, with moderately assertive carbonation that stays crisp for the entire session; smooth mouthfeel, and more refreshing than your average IPA.

Final Grade: 3.86, a B+. Monday Survivor IPA is delightfully fruity, a perfect beer to be sipping on a balmy spring evening. Sincere thanks to the hard working folks at both Refined Fool and Wellington for coming together to produce this solid, thirst quenching, hop-forward pale ale. It's not getting any fresher in late April, but if this collaboration one-off is brought back, I'd absolutely buy some more.
