473 mL can from the brewery; no canning date and served slightly chilled.

Pours clear copper-brown with amber red highlights; gathered atop is an inch of creamy, off white-coloured head that wilts away within three or four minutes. A quarter-inch band of even lace sticks to the glass, with a filmy cap and tight collar remaining on the surface. Flowery, perfume-y, potpourri-adjacent aroma: the lavender sticks out for me, but I also get that spicy hint of turmeric as well as chamomile herbal tea. Light suggestions of caramel, toasted grains and bready malt sweetness are also evident.

Spicy/herbal flavour profile, reminiscent of a tisane. Lightly caramelized sugars and bready malt sweetness at the forefront, with plenty of lavender, too; the turmeric and jasmine are close behind, with herbal chamomile tea, sappy resin bitterness and shades of root beer coming at the finish. Herbal, peppery aftertaste. Medium-light in body, with very low carbonation that contributes to this brew's flat, relatively tepid mouthfeel. I'm not a fan, but it does suit the 'herbal tea' theme, and more assertive carbonation would theoretically work against the 'night cap' niche they're aiming for. On the plus side, this beer did a really good job of decongesting my sinuses.

Final Grade: 3.61, a B grade. Zzzzzzz Nightcap IPA is a misnomer IMO - the IPA aspect is severely underplayed, to the point where I'm not sure it belongs in the name at all. I also don't care for lavender in beer, but the addition of jasmine provides some complementary depth that made for a more tolerable experience. This belongs in the Herbed/Spiced beer category, but then again it's labelled as an IPA, so who am I to argue? I do think it merits a couple of bonus points for trying something different, but without significant recipe tweaks I don't think this is a beer I'd deliberately revisit.... unless my nose is all stuffed up.
