473 mL can from the brewery; no canning date and served barely chilled.
Pours a hazy, turbid golden-orange colour, crowned with at least two fingers of dense, creamy white head that fades over the course of the next ten minutes. Gobs of beautiful lace cling to the glass, with a generously foamy collar and quarter-inch cap holding fast - looks fantastic so far. It smells of tangerine, mango, passion fruit and cantaloupe, with hints of grape candy, wheaty malts and coconut.
The flavour profile is unusually sweet, vaguely reminiscent of Bottle Caps candy. There's also a smooth, bready wheat malt note, overlapping with hints of passion fruit, orange, grapefruit and mango. Suggestions of coconut near the finish, with pithy citrus, tropical fruit and chalky candy fading into the aftertaste. Medium-full in body, with middling carbonation that adds some frothiness to this brew's smooth, soft mouthfeel. Fair drinkability - one glass is no problem, but two might be a chore.
Final Grade: 3.77, squeaking out a B+. Corey's Mating Dance started off strong, but by the end of the glass I was more than ready to move on to something else. The sweetness is interesting at first, but becomes tiresome after a while... but in all fairness, I am not typically a big fan of kveik pale ales, so your mileage may vary. It's interesting enough to be worth a shot if you can get it fresh, and I wouldn't be surprised to see this in their next IPA mixer.
