473 mL can from the brewery; no canning date and served barely chilled. Billed as a "Dutch koyt", an ancient beer style with which I have no previous experience whatsoever.

Pours a clear golden colour, kicking up just under an inch of soapy, foamy white head that dissipates within a minute or two. A small amount of stringy lace is tossed about, with a thin collar and filmy cap staying put. Wholesome aroma of whole wheat bread & clean, grainy pale malts, with hints of granola as well as something earthy/herbal.

Approachable, straightforward flavours: superficially reminiscent of a German export lager crossed with a blonde ale, yet distinct from either of those. Grainy pale malts, whole wheat bread, biscuity sweetness and oats, with earthy, herbal hops rounding out the back end; finishes with biscuit and nuttiness persisting briefly into a malty aftertaste. Medium-light in body, with low carbonation that gently brushes against the palate, contributing to its smooth, soft mouthfeel. Solid drinkability: I pounded it back quickly enough, but after today's Sarnia Sting and TML games, I found myself with plenty of unrelated excuses to get drunk real quick.

Final Grade: 3.67, a B grade. Having never reviewed a koyt/kuit, I can't rightfully claim that Dutch Grandma is a good or bad one - I can, however, say that I enjoyed my can and would've been happy to drink another right afterward. Recommended to fans of pale lagers, blonde ales, and other basic session styles. Not necessarily the most exotic "ancient" beer I've tried to date, but fun to try anyhow.
