473 mL can from the brewery; dated Jun 23 2023 and served slightly chilled.
Pours hazy yellow with some clumpy sediment gathering at the base of the glass; perched atop is roughly an inch of soapy, foamy white head that melts off within three minutes or so. Some spotty flecks of lace are tossed about in the process, which also leaves a frothy collar and thin, filmy cap. The nose is comparable to that of their original session sour - doughy malts, grain husk and stone fruit, adding just a hint of citrus and pineapple to the mix.
It tastes alright - tangerine is noticeable right off the bat, with hints of pineapple also coming through. Not a lot going on beyond that; hints of orchard fruit sweetness, with low level lactic acidity lurking in the background. Finishes tart, with pineapple and orange flavours carrying into the aftertaste before it dries off. Medium-light in body, with low carbonation that rolls gently along the tongue, resulting in a smooth, soft, somewhat juicy mouthfeel. Great drinkability - juicy and refreshing, so I think I could go for seconds, in the right situation.
Final Grade: 3.84, a B+. Millennial Passion Pineapple Tangerine is an approachable fruited sour that would make a suitable introduction to the style: the sourness is minimized, and there's no funk to speak of. I think I preferred the original MP - it was a little more nuanced, whereas this spinoff is mostly just about the extra ingredients (particularly the citrus), though it does do a good job showcasing them. I'd buy this again if I were craving a citrusy sour, and would recommend it if you're craving the same.
