This IPA is a New Zealand version of our classic Pouch Envy. Re-envisioned with the newest hop varieties coming out of New Zealand: Kohatu, Motueka and Wai-iti. It’s an easy-drinker bursting with fresh tropical fruit and citrus.

And we know you are thinking about bringing your dog to the family reunion this weekend because "everybody likes him"... Aunt Joanne doesn't. Neither does your cousin Josh. Stop, reflect, and have a beer. 25 IBU

473 mL can from the brewery; no canning date. Served slightly chilled.

Pours a hazy pale yellow colour, sporting an inch-thick layer of fluffy, soapy white head that recedes at a casual pace. A little over five minutes later, the glass has been caked with multiple rings of lovely lace; a generous collar of creamy froth endures, surrounding a patchy cap. It smells of peaches, orange juice and lime zest, with piney, perfumey hops and hints of tropical fruitiness also coming through.

The flavour profile starts off fruity, with peach, orange, lemon and lime zest, as well as wheaty, bready malts & a touch of mango coming through. More piney and resiny on the back end, with pithy, floral bitterness and a woodsy/herbal note; hints of tropical fruit and citrus fade into a pithy aftertaste. Light-bodied, with sharp & aggressive carbonation that prickles the palate relentlessly; despite being only 5%, I would not call this especially sessionable.

Final Grade: 3.76, eking out a B+. People Don't Like Your Dog As Much As You Think They Do is a solid hop-forward pale ale, but not quite on par with its sibling beer (Pouch Envy). This brew is less fruity/more bitter than Pouch, likely due to the Kohatu hops, which impart a resiny, piney bitterness that stands in stark contrast to the fruity/citrusy notes of the other hop varietals. It's not bad, but there is nothing about this pale ale that makes me want to revisit it, at least not any time soon.
