This 7.5% Prickly Pear IPA might be our most flavourful beer ever—strawberry, passion fruit, grapefruit, and a massive addition of prickly pear juice. It's fruity, its hazy, and its got more flavour and aroma than you'll know what to do with.

Warning: it goes down much smoother than a 7.5% beer should. If you wake up with 2 snakes circling your head and a dart dangling from your mouth, that's on you. 25 IBU

473 mL can from the brewery; no canning date and served slightly chilled.

Pours relatively clear, its complexion fogged up by the silty sediment strewn throughout its body. It's topped with roughly one inch of loose, foamy white head that melts off within two minutes or so, replaced with a frothy collar and sparse film; a narrow band of wavering lace clings to the glass. Muted aroma with hints of prickly pear, melon rind, tropical fruits and maybe a twinge of strawberry.

It's not bad, but it took several sips for me to fully appreciate its nuance. Juicy flavour profile - I'm getting watermelon, pear, wheat malts and canned peaches, followed by hints of tropical fruit and berries. Suggestions of muddled citrus and earthy hops at the finish, with prickly pear and melon lasting into the aftertaste, which is slightly warming - the alcohol is pretty well integrated, becoming more noticeable as the glass approaches room temperature. Medium-full in body, with low carbonation that softly brushes against the tongue, contributing to its smooth, somewhat juicy mouthfeel. One can is plenty, but it's still surprisingly easy to polish this off.

Final Grade: 3.77, a B+. An interesting blend of fruit beer and IPA, I enjoyed my can of Anyone Else Getting Weird Vibes From Sandy? The prickly pear is a rare fruit selection, at least in the context of beer - I'm pretty sure this is the first 'prickly pear beer' I've come across in my decade-plus of reviewing beers, and it does do the fruit justice in terms of flavour. I am not much of a fan of the fruit itself, but I do like this IPA and would consider buying it again - good stuff, another worthwhile experiment.
