473 mL can from the brewery; no packaging date. Served barely chilled.
Pours hazy golden-yellow, fitted with two inches of foamy white head that slowly melts away. A little over five minutes later, I'm left with a lumpy cap of soapy suds surrounded by a generous collar; a half-inch band of thick lace clings to the glass. The aroma is moderately dank, floral and earthy, with hints of sage as well as a muddle of fruity aromas that all blend together incoherently. Careful sniffing gave impressions of melon, orchard fruit, passion fruit and orange, but none of those really leapt out.
Its flavour profile is fruity and a little sweet, reminiscent of a fruit cup - there's peaches in syrup, mango, honeydew melon and passion fruit, as well as some mandarin orange and strawberry. Finishes with dank, floral hops and a mild resiny bitterness; fruit cup flavours reverberate into a juicy, slightly warming aftertaste. Medium-full in body, with low carbonation that rolls limply along the tongue; soft, juicy mouthfeel appropriate for the style. Limited drinkability, but at 7.5%, a single can would be enough for anyone.
Final Grade: 3.8, a solid B+. I'm Not Always This Annoying is an easy IPA to like, but it's missing that certain something that might propel it up to the next tier. The aroma didn't do much for me, which is disappointing for a brew that could almost qualify as a DIPA - but it's tasty and fruity, just as advertised. A reasonably strong effort, definitely worth including in the Fools' next IPA mix pack.
