473 mL can from the brewery; no packaging date. Served slightly chilled.
Pours a hazy, turbid golden-orange colour, fitted with over an inch of tight, foamy white head that lasts for a little over five minutes. A lovely coat of even lace is draped onto the glass, with a frothy collar and filmy cap lingering on the surface - looks fine to me. The aroma is subdued, but mostly fruity - I'm getting orange, grapefruit and melon, with suggestions of passion fruit and pineapple.
A flavourful DIPA; moderately sweet and boozy with low bitterness. Flavours of grapefruit and melon stand out in particular, accompanied by hints of pineapple, passion fruit and lime-ade. Hints of mango and cantaloupe on the back end, with Pez candy sweetness and very low-level booziness persisting into a relatively juicy aftertaste. Medium-full in body, with low-ish carbonation that softly prickles the tongue; feels smooth and soft in the mouth, with great drinkability given the abv. Two of these in a row would be no problem.
Final Grade: 3.84, a B+. Keith's Hat is a solid effort that basically lives up to its "double juicy" description. Sure, it could be juicier, but the flavours are pretty nice as-is - and perhaps more importantly, I'm not getting any of that acidic hop burn that these hazy DIPAs sometimes suffer from. Refined Fool releases a LOT of IPAs of varying quality, but I'm comfortable putting this one in the top third of that category, because it's well-made and pretty damn tasty. Good work, fools!
