473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Feb 7 2024 and served slightly chilled.
Pours hazy & translucent, its straw yellow-coloured body crowned with two fingers of fluffy, delicately foamy white head. It gradually seeps away within five minutes, leaving behind a wide, frothy collar and a patchy cap - looks great, so the name checks out so far. Smells great too - orange juice, passion fruit, honeydew melon, maybe a hint of guava, as well as grains and fragrant floral notes.
I really like this, the fruity hop flavours pop quite nicely. Malt presence is minimal, with grains and oat sweetness providing a scaffold for notes of mandarin orange, lemon, mango and passion fruit. I'm also getting a hint of melon, and a wisp of pineapple at the end; slightly floral, tropical aftertaste that quickly turns bone dry. Light in body; a little on the thin side, with aggressive carbonation that assaults the palate continuously throughout each sip. Very crushable, with some potential as a go-to hoppy session ale.
Final Grade: 4.0, a legit A-. Todd really is an Absolute Beauty. Keep in mind the fact that this was canned like five weeks ago, which is practically a best case scenario for LCBO stock. I'm not usually too fussy about freshness, but I admit it can make a considerable difference with hazy pale ales, especially lighter ones such as Todd - so if you have access to this beer, I'd say you should try it ASAP because it's above average vs. most of the Fools' pale ales & IPAs. I'll be buying this again, but I'll be sure to save at least one can for the back of the fridge, because I want to know how it'll hold up after a few months.
