473 mL can from the brewery; no packaging date and served barely chilled.
Pours a hazy pale golden colour with one finger of soapy, bubbly white head situated atop; it fizzles off within a couple of minutes, replaced with a tight collar and sudsy cap. Modest lace deposition after a few sips; looks fine. Lime, melon and guava on the nose, with hints of pineapple and passion fruit.
It's tasty - I'm getting honeydew and watermelon right off the bat, soon joined by flavours of pear, passion fruit and mango. These flavours last through the finish and into the aftertaste, alongside hints of melon rind and peach drink. Medium-light in body, with relatively low carbonation that gently prickles the tongue, resulting in a smooth, soft mouthfeel. Low bitterness; highly drinkable.
Final Grade: 3.8, a B+. I'll be honest here - I've been reviewing nothing but IPAs for basically two months now, and it's getting to the point where trying new ones has become a chore. In spite of my transient lack of enthusiasm, I will say that I Only Fly Ultra Basic is better than average for Refined Fool, largely because of its unique flavour profile that goes all-in on tropical and orchard fruitiness. Probably not worth getting excited about, but I wouldn't have minded a second glass.
