Brewed with pilsner malt and Centennial and Mosaic Lupomax hops, this is a moderately bitter IPA with notes of orange, lime, berries, sweet fruits and just a hint of pine. 55 IBU

473 mL can from the brewery; no canning date and served barely chilled.

Pours hazy and translucent, its yellow-hued body fitted with an inch-thick cap of tight, foamy white head. Within three minutes or so, it has receded back to a soapy collar and thin cap, with a respectable swath of sticky lace clinging to the glass. Lemony on the nose, with additional notes of floral hops, orange and indeterminate tropical fruit - papaya, perhaps?

The flavours are alright; nothing to get excited about, though. A little bit of a doughy malt thing going on in the background, underneath notes of grapefruit pith, orange, lemon and shades of tropical fruit. Floral and hoppy on the back end, with some earthy, piney bitterness that loiters into the aftertaste for an impressively long time. Medium in body, with average carbonation that adds some prickliness to this brew's otherwise smooth mouthfeel. It's drinkable, but there are plenty of other Refined Fool pale ales and IPAs I'd pick over this one.

Final Grade: 3.65, an acceptable B grade. Flip Flops is OK, but there's plenty of room for improvement here. Superficially reminiscent of a NEIPA, but its bitter conclusion and lack of juiciness place it firmly in the 'classic IPA' category for me. I dunno - it's not as if this is a *bad* pale ale, but it didn't do much for me. The flavour profile is a bit shallow, lacking any real 'pop'. I'd probably take a pass on this next time, but I wouldn't discourage others from giving 'er a go.
