At my lady Pamela's house; canned and chilled, 473mL in a pint glass. From their Winter Beer League 6-pack at my favourite but now closed The Beer Store on Goyeau St. in nearby downtown Windsor. Canned September 4/24. My 27th beer from the Sarnia, Ontario brewery, and 17th for 2026. Ludicrously adored by Gracie the cat...

473 mL can from the LCBO, included in Refined Fool's 2024 Beer League winter mixed pack. Dated Oct 24 2024 and served slightly chilled.
Pours a clear copper-brown colour, capped with one finger of creamy, buff-coloured head that lasts for a little over three minutes. Afterwards, a tight collar is left encircling a thin cap, with a modest quantity of lace scattered onto the glass. Malty, nutty-sweet aroma with notes of caramel, toasted bread & digestive biscuit, as well as suggestions of earthy, herbal hops.
Not bad at all. Lightly toasted malts do a lot of the heavy lifting here - toasted bread, lightly caramelized sugars, biscuits and a touch of nuttiness. More toastiness on the back end, briefly joined by hints of grassy, herbal hop bitterness before reverting back to toasted maltiness in the aftertaste, which lasts for a second or so before fading. Light-medium in body, with moderately lively carbonation that adds some bite to this lager's smooth, satisfying mouthfeel. Solid drinkability.
Final Grade: 3.76, a worthy B+. Knife Shoes is a pretty decent Vienna lager - certainly not a superlative one, but I can't find much to complain about, either. Not too sweet, which can be a major sticking point for this beer geek when it comes to amber lagers of almost any kind. I'd drink this again next autumn or winter: it'd work as a substitute for Boston Lager, which probably won't be back on local shelves for at least a few years.

473ml can served cold into a beer mug. Part of the Winter Sports are dangerous pack from Refined Fool. Canned September 4, 2024.
Appearance - Clear auburn color with a finger plus of foamy off-white head. Pretty decent staying power and no lacing to speak of left behind.
Smell - Lots of grain with some corn and a healthy dose of wet leaves. Bready elements as well and a trace of caramel. Maybe something a touch peppery as well.
Taste - Clean and grainy with a sweet taste mid-sip that is reminiscent of bubblegum. Some bitterness kicks in with some earthy flavors and more grain.
Mouthfeel - Medium-light bodied with fairly low carbonation. Quite crushable. Enjoyable.
Overall - Better than expected, probably the winner from the mixed pack. Maybe it's just the fact that I've got a hankering for a good lager right now, but Knife Shoes definitely delivered.
