At my lady Pamela's house; canned and chilled, 473mL in a pint glass. From their Winter Beer League 6-pack at my favourite but now closed The Beer Store on Goyeau St. in nearby downtown Windsor. Canned September 5/24. My 26th beer from the Sarnia, Ontario brewery, and 16th for 2026. Lovingly embraced by Sundae the cat...

473 mL can from the LCBO, included in Refined Fool's 2024 Beer League winter mixed pack. Dated Sep 26 2024 and served at room temperature.

Pours a dark copper-brown colour, kicking up more than two fingers of thick, foamy, light tan-coloured head that lasts for five minutes or so. Great lace deposition, with a creamy collar and patchy cap lasting on - looks good to me. Sweet, malt-forward aroma of toffee, cocoa, toasted bread and hazelnuts.

The flavours are along the same lines: toffee/brown sugar, toasted bread, cocoa and toasted nuts, with some mild roastiness and earthy, herbal hop bitterness cropping up on the back end. Nutty, bittersweet aftertaste that lingers on the palate. Medium in body, with low carbonation and a smooth, soft mouthfeel that makes for a very drinkable brown ale.

Final Grade: 3.68, a B grade. There's a note about this being a rebranded version of Brouhaha, which was one of Refined Fool's original six brews, dating back to their grand opening in 2014. I guess I could see that - the abv matches up, after all. Since this is apparently a beer I've already had many times in the past, I don't need to feel bad for reviewing it 11 months after it was brewed. A solid brown ale that is worth checking out, assuming that you have an appreciation for malt-forward brews.
