473 mL can from the LCBO, included in Refined Fool's 2025 Beer League summer mixed pack. Dated Mar 26 2025 and served slightly chilled.
Pours a relatively clear pale blonde colour, initially supporting an inch of soapy, foamy white head that steadily drops away within the next several minutes. A frothy collar and cap live on, with a lovely coat of lace now draped across the glass - looks great so far. Wheaty malts on the nose, with hints of white bread, grain husk and shortbread.
Not quite your standard blonde ale: generally leaning towards 'malty', but there's enough of a hop presence to serve as a proper counterweight. Wheaty malts, bread and white tortilla flavours at first, becoming more grainy later on; hints of floral, earthy hop bitterness near the finish, persisting momentarily into the aftertaste before drying off. Light in body, with middling carbonation levels that gently rolls along the tongue, resulting in a smooth mouthfeel. Very drinkable, the sort of thing you'd bring to the locker room after a beer league game.
Final Grade: 3.74, a B grade. As far as blonde ales go, Brad Still Thinks He's Going to the Show is actually pretty good. I particularly like the hop contributions - the floral bitterness that they provide prevents this from being a totally boring, boilerplate blonde ale that I would otherwise quickly forget about. That's not to suggest that this is an earth-shattering, must-try beer - it's just a slightly better-than-average blonde ale that pilsner fans in particular might appreciate.
