It's always a rousing little event—you see the headlights pull in, wonder "who could this be??", and take a peak behind the curtains only to discover a stranger's car scurrying away. You shake your head slightly and return to cleaning your terrarium.
This Tiny Batch Series beer was brewed to commemorate this special occasion. A 6% westy with slight maltiness and a pleasant, well balanced, piney bitterness thanks to a perfect combination of Citra, Simcoe, Columbus, and Centennial hops. It's worth turning around for. 70 IBU

473 mL can from the brewery; no canning date and served barely chilled.
Pours a slightly cloudy orange-amber colour, topped with nearly two fingers of soapy, sudsy white head that gradually dissipates over the next five minutes. It leaves behind an attractive swath of messy lace as it drops down to a creamy collar and a frothy cap; looks fine so far. Floral, spicy hops and citrus on the nose, specifically grapefruit and lemon; I'm also getting hints of passion fruit, berries and woodsy pine.
It's a tasty west coast IPA without many surprises: toasted bread and a touch of caramel overlap with hoppy flavours of grapefruit and orange peel. The bitterness gets cranked up on the back end, which is dominated by floral, earthy hops, pine resin and a peppery, spicy character reminiscent of curry; grapefruit pithiness recedes into a spicy, earthy, bitter aftertaste. Medium in body, with assertive carbonation that remains prickly right down to the last couple of gulps; smooth-drinking with a bite. Moderate drinkability; I wouldn't turn down another serving, but I have a pretty high tolerance for bitter pale ales.
Final Grade: 3.71, a B grade. Aside from being the highlight of every paranoid hermit's week, When Someone Uses My Driveway to Turn Around is also a fairly solid west coast IPA. Not a superlative one, mind you - the hop profile isn't exactly unique or memorable - though the CTZ does provide an interesting spicy quality that synergizes well with the sharp carbonation. It's a decent IPA from Refined Fool, and I must say... hold on just a sec, I think I saw some headlights shining through the drapes.
