Our latest Tiny Batch Series brew is a 3.5% Table Beer. It's light bodied with a subtle yet distinct hop aroma full of fruit notes including red berries, melon, grape and peach.
What's a table beer? Glad you asked - in the middle ages, it was often brewed in farmhouses in France and Belgium for hydration and nutrition (due to its low abv).

473 mL can from the brewery; no canning date and served slightly chilled.
Pours a bright golden-yellow colour, its complexion partially clouded by countless flecks of sandy sediment. Nearly two fingers of soapy white foam recedes within three minutes, leaving behind a frothy collar and a messy ring of lace; looks great to me. Fresh aroma with hints of grassy hops, grainy malts, lemon zest, jasmine tea and a green, vegetal note.
Straightforward, but also pretty flavourful for only 3.5%. Grainy malts and a light cereal sweetness early on, joined by notes of lemon, apricot and melon rind by mid-sip. Grassy, floral hops add some counterbalancing bitterness on the back end, with hints of green tea and citrus dissipating into a dry aftertaste. Light in body, with moderate carbonation that adds some spritz to this brew's smooth, fluffy & surprisingly satisfying mouthfeel. Easy to knock back, even in multiples.
Final Grade: 3.56, a serviceable B grade. I haven't tried more than a handful of table beers, which means I'm in no position to definitively declare that Rapscallion is a good one (or a bad one, for that matter). I do think it's very good for an ultra-light session ale: it does have some pilsner-like qualities, but the yeast strain gives it more of a 'grisette crossed with a pilsner' feel. Regardless, it's certainly much tastier than your typical light beer - should this become a mainstay in the Fools' lineup, I think I'd keep buying it when the mood strikes.
