473 mL can from the brewery; no packaging date. Served barely chilled.
Pours a lightly fogged golden-yellow colour, erupting with nearly three fingers of thick, soapy white head that gradually erodes. More than five minutes later, it has been worn down to a rocky quarter-inch cap surrounded by a thick, sudsy cap, with gobs of lace adhering to the perimeter; looks great so far. Fruity aroma that includes notes of orange, melon and pineapple, as well as a hint of mango.
An unremarkable IPA with remarkably low bitterness. The flavour profile is a muddled blend of orange, canned pineapple, cantaloupe, mango and grapefruit, backed by bready, wheaty malts. Not a lot of turnover throughout the sip, finishing with more melon, citrus and mango that fades into a sweet-ish aftertaste. Medium in body, with gentle carbonation and a smooth mouthfeel; easy enough to toss back at 6%.
Final Grade: 3.55, a B grade. If asked to describe Elbow Model with a single word, I think 'meh' would basically sum it up. It's not a bad beer, but it certainly doesn't do anything to distinguish itself from the competition, either - very average in nearly every respect, although I did appreciate its hearty mouthfeel. I must have had at least a hundred IPAs from Refined Fool by now, and this one is smack dab in the bottom third. Probably not worth bringing back, but it's acceptable filler for one of their future mixed packs.
