On tap at the brewery, burnished brass color, nice head and lacing; fruity smell, taste follows with a slight bitterness. Light feel consistent with a kolsch, nice.

Brewery describes this as a "Passion Fruit Kölsch." Fromm the 22 oz bottle purchased at the brewery tasting room at Fitzsimmons hospital complex.

Hazy yellowish brew with a modest foam in the Orval chalice. Vague fruity aroma with some yeast but nothing that says Kölsch to me. Sudsy mouth feel is pleasant.

Slightly sweet and malty. Bitterish aftertaste of blackberry seeds. A hint of pineapple astringency. Overall this is an interesting tangy beer that provides more complexity than many fruity concoctions.

Billed as an imperial passionfruit kolsch, the Ursula Brewery goes bold by going light. The delicacy of soft grains, subtle fruit and a pleasant floral kickstart is layered by the crisp tang of exotic tropical fruit while carrying a slight heft in booze and body.

Renata pours a pale straw hue with faint haze. Its soft and slim statured head carries the citrus and tropical perfumes of tangy tropical punch along with the lightness of baking bread and a kiss of honeysuckle. Modestly sweet, the grain profile is soft and brisk with bread and wafer.

As the malts quickly dissolve on the tongue, the middle palate is breaming with the generous passionfruit additions. Somewhat of lemon, under ripened orange, bitter melon, kiwi and lime, its tantalizing tartness blazes a trail of acidity through a crisp, clean and refreshing finish.

Medium light in body, the fruit's acidity helps to keep the flavors and textures tight and drying. Still juicy with tropical passionfruit, the beer is highly drinkable and refreshing, although its tangy and arid taste has the palate wanting a more sour taste and even drier texture. Trailing hops are faintly bitter with lemongrass and herb, the finish lingers briefly of fruit in a medium length afterglow.

Look: Surprisingly light and clear. Low on carbonation - less than a 1 finger head from a 22 oz bottle. It is still quite active after the head recedes. Looks more like a pilsner.
Smell: Tart, tangy, earthy, citrus fruit. Passion fruit and hints of funk and grapefruit. Pretty aromatic.
Taste: Sour upfront. Very tangy and funky. Sour funk fades and you get more fuit flavors. Quite tropical and over-ripe tasting. Once the fruit fades out, there are hints of a Kolsch - this being some sweet flavor, yeast, and wheat.
