One of my mysteries of Belgian family brewers is it is hard to imagine them staying in business for multiple generations; given how dysfunctional families can be. There must be some indescribable love of brewing that keeps them going. Unfortunately for De Ryck, they turned over their recipes and operations in May 2025 to DKM Brewery in Sint-Niklaas. So small Belgian brewers must be falling on harder times. Which is too bad. But I hope DKM Brewery keeps De Ryck's yeasts well.

Clement has a stand out yeast. While its foam is only slightly above the BBA style's average, the yeast kicks up considerable fruity aromas (apples and pears). Tastes are balanced by just enough hops. Medium-mouthed and soft. This was a good table ale with my world-famous vegetable soup.

As for the very good Overall Hugs, that's for Clement with food, De Ryck's history and DKM's future.
