On-tap 6/24/2016 at Doherty’s East Ave Irish Pub in Pawtucket, RI, served in a tapered pint glass.
A: The beer is a deep dark brown color, with a large beige head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.
S: The aroma contains coffee, chocolate, Belgian yeast, roasted malts and a touch of hops.
T: The taste starts out bready with flavors of roasted malts and Belgian yeast up front. Then some strong flavors of coffee and chocolate quickly follow along with some sweetness. The hops presence is mild but complementary and brings a good balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet and slightly bready.
M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.
O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, decent kick, good variation of style, the dark color for a Saison threw my off at first but the beer was quite enjoyable.

Was confused when I got this at the brewery yesterday, thought they might have poured me a stout or granola brown. Upon further investigation they label this one as a "black saision" with miscellaneous herbs. Looks dark, dark brown with no head. Smells sweet and a touch roasted, maybe some hints of spice. Taste is odd, too. Starts with a bitter sweetness that goes into some herbal spice. Finishes bitter and a bit dry. Would have to really reach to call this a saison. Overall not very impressed and this could have been a lot better.
