Appearance: Arrives pitch black with one finger of tan foarm; plenty of lacing hangs around as the head fades

Smell: Roasted malt and dark chocolate with peanut butter and graham cracker tones

Taste: Quite roasty, up front, with some chocolate, graham cracker and peanut butter emerging; on the back end, however, the roast takes over and dominates the finish

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with moderate carbonation; some warmth in the gullet

Overall: Just too much roast here and it just overwhelms everything else; not sure about the rum barrel - the website says this was barrel-aged but I didn't get any rum or oak in the flavor profile

Near black color where no light passes. The moderate sized beige head fades to rim bubbles. It leaves multiple rings with streaks in between.

Smells like a S’more with Graham cracker, sweet chocolate, perhaps some vanilla and lots of peanut butter.

Super rich in body with a modicum of carbonation. The flavor is also rich, almost like semisweet chocolate pudding. The peanut butter is blended better on the tongue. I get the warmth from the alcohol. This is a very big beer but it never enters the extreme realm (but it’s close). Relatively shorter aftertaste considering the bigness of the taste.

Canned on 11/16/2022; consumed on 4/26/2023

Pours a slick, brownish-black body topped with multiple fingers of creamy, almond-brown foam; great head retention leaves a half-finger of cap, thin, frothy collar, and a dense layering of chunky, webby lacing ringing around the walls of the glass.

Aromas of creamy peanut butter air through slight chocolate malt, with a procession of roast guiding to notes of flaky cocoa wafer and hints of peanut butter persist, yet remain fairly timid.

Taste offers hints of peanut butter dispersing across the profile accompanied by charry roast and tinges of dark cacao across the mid-palate alongside an evenly-imbued licorice undertone, leaving dark chocolate to ease through the back end of the profile.

Mouthfeel brings a body on the lighter end of medium and a moderate fluff of carbonation; a soft prickle disperses with edges of creaminess through the mid-palate as a wavering acridity leaves a pointed bittering lingering through the finish.

Conservative in expression and half-heartedly formed, this beer shows a tepid approach to peanut butter adjuncting in a stout lacking the creamy heft to compensate; decently drinkable, though falling largely flat.

Looks like this one might be sticking around a little longer. A pint can emptied into a clear glass liter mug gave a beautiful pour. There's an appropriate tan head on top of a black coffee brown colored brew. An abundance of peanuts and roasted malt hits the nose, gently hard. So far, it's exactly as advertised. It drinks smoothly and richly, almost like drinking a good stout with some creamy peanut butter in your mouth. What makes this remarkable is the little notice of the 11.5% ABV until the esophagus gets warm. Another major positive is the tasteful use of the peanut flavor. It doesn't overwhelm the malt. OK, the glass lacing isn't great, but it is stratified. Those that are no strangers to desert beers may find this rating too high. But, considering the parameters of the rating categories, this comes in unapologetically with these numbers. However, if you don't love peanut butter, this isn't for you.

I looooove the name of this beer. JIF! Can date smudged, but I can tell 2021/12/??
Pours a rich foamy 1 finger tan head with moderate retention, messy lacing, jet black color with mild legs

Nose holy cow peanutbutter, like I just popped open a jar of Jif, a touch of dark chocolate and roast behind that, but basically all peanuts and peanutbutter, honestly can't get anything else

Taste is basically a Reese's Peanutbutter Cup, like completely tastes like that, lots of peanutbutter, a bit of chewy peanuts, creamy, a bit of brown sugar candy like, some dark chocolate and milk chocolate cocoa, and hint of roast and coffee, a bit salty as well to add to the peanutbutter notes, a bit of spicy hop bitterness on the finish

Mouth is fuller bod, rich creamy, med fizzy carb, very light warming smooth alcohol

Overall mixed feelings on this one. It has tons of peanut butter goodness, taste had Reese's and lots of peanutbutter, but not a lot of stout coming through, it's way overpowered, at least the taste has some with some roast, chocolate, and spicy hop, but still just so much peanutbutter. Bonus points for a great name.

A - Dark brown pour with thin caramel colored lacing.

S - Big peanut butter aroma with slight chooclate in the background.

T - Follows the nose with peanut butter up front and chocolate roast in the background.

M - Body is big and a little bit of frothy of on the outer edges.

O - The ABV is well hidden on this one. Really diggin' it and recommended.

Sampling a cellar temp 16 oz can poured into my snifter. Beer was purchased at the brewery.
The beer pours a deep cola brown color with a fizzy beige head of 1 cm that fades quickly to a thin edge layer.
The aroma is some dark chocolate and some brown sugar with a good dose of bourbon. No peanut butter note here. Booze is also well hidden on the nose, even though this is a pretty big beer, but had hoped for some roasted nut notes or peanut hits.
First sip reveals a medium body with a sticky texture and fine slightly tingly carbonation. Nice physical traits on this beer for an imperial stout. Definitely coats my palate a bit after each swallow.
Flavor is what the nose predicts, I get some sweet chocolate and brown sugar with again the bourbon showing through, sweet though, no heat. Maybe a little vanilla and just the faintest of sweet peanut butter notes.
No hop presence and the booze is only faintly present on the swallow.
I like this as an imperial stout, even a bourbon barrel aged one, but the peanut butter had my hopes up and it just isnt there for me. Maybe it has faded, maybe it never really took. A little disappointing as the stouts from Black Hog are usually spot on. The beer is good, just missing any prominence of peanut butter.
