750ml bottle. Poured into a stemmed glass 11/28/2014.
A- Dark purple-brown body, half finger light purple head, good retention time, not much lacing or film left over. [3.75]
S- Smells like a rich ice wine, something from the Niagara-on-the-Lake area in Ontario. Very rich, deep port-like plum sweetness, red tannins, candied sugar, musty grapes. This is incredibly rich and would make for a great dessert drink just based on how it smells. [4.25]
F- Rich plums, red wine tannins, oak. Dark chocolate paired with grapes. Hint of smoky bourbon; not much in way of whiskey overall. The port-like sweetness comes out really well here, adding a lot of complexity and intensity to the overall flavour. I've not had many beers that tasted the way this one does. Very unique with a strong fortified wine presence. [4.5]
M- Thick body, smooth with a lot of stickiness and an exceptionally dry finish, presumably from the various barrels. [4.25]
O- This beer tasted like a fortified wine but without any of the booziness. Exceptionally smooth and dry with a lot of complexity. Unique and very tasty. [4.25]
Final score: 4.34
