Coolship Lager Gold Smoke pours a beautiful bright gold in color with a fluffy white A good portion of beechwood smoked malt alongside pilsner & a touch of vienna allow Smoke to live up to its name. Aromas of backyard barbecue & camp fires are balanced y a crispy body with a dry finish. Fermented cool using our classic lager yeast, Gold Smoke is cellared for several months prior to release.

Unique creation, what else do I expect from OEC. Very good smoke aroma. Very drinkable lager, appreciate slowly. It's it's own thing. Well received by tasting group.

No can date, just a code
Pours a fizzy bubbly 1/2 finger head with fair retention, no real lacing, hazy pale golden color
Nose brings fair smoke, almost beechwood smoke like, hint of mild smoldering log, light cereal grain sweetness
Taste brings mild smoke up front, again the mild beechwood smoke with a little campfire and smoked meat or cheese character, grainy sweet pilsner malt comes through a fair amount, a little straw and dough, touch of bitterness, drier finish a bit more mild smoke and bitter earthy hops lingering
Mouth is med to lighter bod, med carb
Overall a decent beer, nice soft lager with fair smoke that comes in nicely without overpowering and some nice malt coming through

(16 oz can, no date/code; purchased single off shelf at State Line last week... poured into a Tubinger mug)
L: clear, golden liquid with a slight haze; head builds perfectly to top of mug, receding to a thin, fisheyed sponge... looks fine at the start, but loses almost all foam presence by the end
S: sweet smoke misting off the foam, some subtle floral/rose cake icing note in the near background, with a tiny tinge of honeyed, toasty malt in the distance... expression and dimension all but lost with the disappearance of the suds
T: the smoke initially gives way crusty, rustic bread flavor, heavy in the middle of the front of the palate, while some grainy, dry-grassy notes linger in the outer perimeters (cheeks)... this isn't quite a smoked version of a helles or pilsner; it's tough to identify a base beer style (a Vienna lager?!?)... the aftertaste is dry with a sort softly-burnt pizza crust flavor, the doughiness of said crust swelling and decresecendo-ing each sip
F: stealth carbonation which resurfaces a few times (brap!), but what a plush, silky body and cut, stunning finish; palate buzzing like a street lamp at night... gets marginally flat by the end... drinks like something I'd swill from a plastic cup while bowling
O: good malts and good smoke do make a good smoke lager... I would drink this again, with food; doesn't quite dazzle on its own (2328)
