Midnight Lager from Side Launch Brewery in Collingwood. 5.3 percent alc.
The beer has a Coca-Cola look to it with a beige medium sized head that dissipates quickly.
Smell is neutral. Taste is dark malt forward with a mild to moderate level of sweetness that rounds out with a hint of bitterness at the end. Beer is medium bodied with an almost smooth mouthfeel and an easy finish.
If you like dark beers this is a quality product.
Grade: A.

473 mL can from the LCBO; dated July 31 2019 and served slightly chilled.
Pours a foggy, deep bronze-amber colour, sporting nearly a finger of creamy, long-lasted head. It leaves behind an even band of lovely lacing as it settles into a smooth, quarter-inch cap - it's a nice-looking dark lager, I must give it that. Hints of caramel, toasted malts and nuttiness on the nose, along with fainter suggestions of dark fruit.
Not too sweet, at least not for a Munich dunkel, but malts and caramelized sugars are still the dominant trend here, as they should be. I'm tasting toasted bread, brown sugar, with maybe a touch of fig in there, along with a hint of nuttiness. Light-medium in body, with low-ish carbonation levels that softly tickle the surface of the palate, resulting in a smooth, rather satisfying texture IMO. Tossing this glass back was no problem - I wouldn't have minded another, but I'm moving on to a Czechvar Dark because I'd like to see how they compare and contrast (update - I liked this one more).
Final Grade: 3.76, a B+. I'm not entirely sure whether or not Midnight Lager is a replacement for Side Launch's old Dark Lager - I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out to be the same beer re-labelled, or a tweak on the old recipe, and I genuinely doubt I'd be able to tell the difference in any of those cases. In the end, the point is largely moot because I remember Dark as a well-made, serviceable beer, and the same is basically true of Midnight. I'd drink it again, even though the truth is that dark lagers are not a frequent pick for me - but by all means, if you enjoy this type of stuff then you should totally give this one a try.

Review from notes. Served cold into a pint glass.
Appearance - Ruddy, dark honey brown beer with a finger plus of light tan head that lasts for a little while. A tiny bit of sediment in the glass and no lacing.
Smell - Light with some grainy notes and suggestions of roastiness and chocolate. Weak nose overall in terms of depth and robustness of aroma.
Taste - Mild with plenty of graininess, soft bitterness with a touch of nuts and possibly chocolate. More flavorful than the nose would suggest.
Mouthfeel - Medium carbonation and a medium light body.
Overall - A decent if unspectacular Dunkel Lager, could see myself picking up some more as this is a very underrepresented style year round among these parts.

Cola dark, moderate head that guves way to nuthin. Indistinct aroma. Some malty sweetness, and surprisingly, a whiff of alcohol. Lightweight stuff flavourwise. Mostly treacly malt, pleasant enough, but thin. Thin-bodied, too. Drinkable, but unremarkable. You could probabky pound back a few of these and feel no pain.
